Harsh scrubbing and over-washing should be avoided due to the fact that they can increase skin irritation and an over-production of oil in compensation for the heavy cleansing method. This could clog pores. Also, products which are gentle exfoliants are helpful and healthy skin cleansers. Those with scratchy ingredients such as fruit seeds or shells should be avoided as they can damage the skin. Alcohol is a bad ingredient for facial products. Alcohol can remove the top layer of the skin, and cause an over-production of oil as mentioned earlier.
You should avoid touching, squeezing, and scratching an acne affected area. Because the blemishes have been forming for weeks, the infection could potentially spread inward causing skin damage, scarring and increased infection. A dermatologist might be a good person to call if the blemishes are recurring and commonplace.
