Acne Scar RemovalYour doctor will look at many things when considering removal of acne scars. Your doctor will look at your age, your overall health, and the type of scar that you have, how you are able to tolerate, medications, procedures, and therapy. Even though acne at times only lasts until after adolescence it tends to leave life long scars. Acne scars usually look like crater like scars. There are many different kinds of procedures that are given to reduce acne scars. Procedures such as dermabrasion which is used to reduce small scars and facial irregularities. Dermabrasion involves removing the top layers of skin with an electrical machine. When the skin heals from the procedure it looks smoother and fresher. There is also another procedure that is also used and it is called Chemical peel. Chemical peels are often used to minimize the looks of damaged skin. Another type of procedure for acne scar removal is called collagen injections it is a type of collagen that is taken from a cow the collagen is injected under the skin to replace the body's natural collagen that may have been lost due to the scars. This procedure of injecting collagen is used to treat wrinkles, scars, and facial lines. Another procedure that is usually used is called laser resurfacing this procedure uses high-energy light to burn away damaged skin. Laser resurfacing is used to minimize wrinkles and fine scars. Another procedure that is often used is called punch grafts which are small skin grafts that are used to replace scarred skin. The way this procedure works is that a hole is punched in the skin to remove the scar, and then it is replaced with unscarred skin which is usually taken from the back of your ear lobe. Punch grafts are usually used to help treat deep acne scars. Another procedure that is usually done but not known to be as effect is called autologous fat transfer, fat transfer is used by taking skin from another part of the body and putting it on the surface of the skin that has been damaged by acne scars. This procedure is used to correct deep and bad scarring. However this procedure is not known to be as effective and the rest because there is a chance that the skin that has been replaced can sink in 2 the scars and cause them to show again within a few years and then the procedure must be done again. There are also some things that can be done to help minimize the scars that you can do at home without the help of a doctor. One simple thing that you can do is to break open a capsule of Vitamin E and apply the powder to the scar. You’ll have to do this every day for a few weeks before you will see a difference but be patient because it will be worth the wait. Another thing that has been found to be an effective treatment is honey which has been helpful in healing scars. However there has not been too much research done on this idea of treatment. But you can give it a try because there are some people who can not afford the above procedures and need to try another alternative so this is something that might work well for you. There may be other treatments that you can use at home also you might want to go to your local health food store and ask them if they have or know of anything that might help to reduce or eliminate your acne scars. |
